Happy One Year Anniversary

Together, we begin Year 2 of the humane fertility control program in the Virginia Range. In the first year alone, AWHC volunteers accomplished what skeptics called “impossible.” We cannot wait to see what Year 2 holds! 

There is always work to be done on the Virginia Range. Some mares have had their full treatment, and some are just starting their treatments. Volunteers day in and day out are working hard to ensure all mares are darted.  Keep up the impressive work!

About the Virginia Range

The Virginia Range has varied terrain from flat land to rocky, steep slopes. Many times, volunteers are trekking out on only jeep trails, climbing over rocks and hiking out further than 4 wheel drive can take you. Along with diverse topography, there is a diverse population of wild horses. They range from horses who live closer to neighborhoods and roads and are more acclimated to humans, to extremely wild horses who spend their time up in the hills, only coming down for water! Nothing stops the dedicated and impressive team of Documenters, Spotters, and Darters. They are out rain or shine, and are the driving force behind an amazing program that keeps wild horses wild!
