Volunteer darter Elena Sullivan on the range.

Well done, Nancy Killian!

If you read last month’s edition, you saw that one of our darters who has been with the program since the first fertility control program began back in 2015 hit a major milestone of administering 1,000 fertility control darts over the lifespan of both the initial program and the current one that was re-started in 2019. We have another one! Nancy’s dedication and determination shows how hard our volunteers work. She has spent countless hours driving and hiking the range, tracking down bands in some difficult terrain, identifying horses, documenting horse families, and of course administering the fertility control in everything from heat to snow.

Nancy is also the current president of Virginia Range Wildlife Protection Association and can be found helping with many other range projects, including occasionally lending a hand with diversionary feeding to divert horses away from the roads and businesses in a busy industrial area and back into the hills. Thank you for being such a valuable team member, Nancy!
