December Local Happenings
City of Reno stands with wild horses
A big thank you goes out to the City of Reno who, working together with Wild Horse Connection representatives, created a flyer for Reno residents who live in developments along the range.
What they had to say is worth repeating! Their tips for living with wild horses could save lives.

Wild Horse License Plates Help fund range improvement projects
Two gate panels that prevent horses from leaving the range and accessing not only a roadway, but also a walking/biking path along Veterans Parkway, were recently damaged beyond use. The Hidden Valley Wild Horse Protection Fund stepped in and was able to utilize funds generated by the Historic Virginia Range Mustangs license plates to replace the damaged gates with heavy duty panels. They will also be funding the permanent metal signs to be mounted on the gates. Wild Horse Connection organized volunteers to get the panels installed. A big thank you to all! Projects like this are just one way your license plates help to protect the Virginia Range mustangs!
If you don’t have the new plates yet, be sure to check out vrmustangs.org/nv-special-plate/ to find out how to get yours!
A huge thank you
As the holidays approach and the year comes to a close, we often reflect on what makes us grateful. This year, everyone at the Pinto Post is incredibly grateful to the volunteers on the range, who day in and day out brave all the weather that living in Nevada brings, from the scorching summers to more recently the shivering winter snow. This month, volunteers outdid themselves throwing hay, through the diversionary feeding project, on a snowy bone chilling day. We thank you and the horses thank you!
Remember, please do not feed wild horses. It is illegal and will surely harm the wild horses. Volunteers are feeding certified weed free hay under a cooperative agreement between Wild Horse Connection Range Management and the Nevada Department of Agriculture for the purpose of public safety.
