September Fertility Control

Updated Fertility Control Numbers

Total Treatments: 2,469

Total Mares Treated:1,211

The AWHC fertility control program on the Virginia Range is moving along really well and we are so proud of our team. Currently, the darters are treating 2019 yearlings and many mares who are receiving their second annual vaccinations. Our documenters and darters consistently update our wild horse database so that the darting process is streamlined and efficient. To date, 2,469 treatments have been given, and 1,211 Virginia Range mares & yearlings have been inoculated.

Welcome to our New Volunteers!

AWHC is excited to announce that we are sending two volunteers to get certified for PZP darting at the Science and Conservation Center in Billings Montana this September 1-3! The certification takes three full days of instruction including the science & history behind PZP, how to document and approach wild horses, how to enter dart records, safety, equipment handling and so much more.  These two new volunteers will work primarily in the Fernley area, where they live.

We are so excited to welcome them as a new dart team!

Volunteer Class Update

The COVID-19 pandemic has somewhat hampered AWHC’s efforts to train additional darters locally, but we hope to schedule a training in the area this October. We have a full class of new volunteers just waiting to be trained and are raring to go to Stagecoach, Silver Springs, USA Parkway, and anywhere else they are needed!  We really hope this class will be a go, so stay tuned!
