August Monthly Highlights

Foal highlights

This spring we highlighted several orphan foal rescues that took place on the Virginia Range and beyond and want to share some updates on them!

Hazel is doing very well as “big sister” to the younger fillies Bitsy and Koa. All three were separated from their dams. Hazel had several infections when she was first brought in that she went to Comstock and fought through and now she is healthy and confident and going to be a beautiful mare when she grows up.

The dams for Bitsy and Koa were never located, but they had both been mixed up with the wrong bands and as newborns were far too young to survive without their moms. These three girls are a joy to watch. They LOVE attention and scratches and napping together in a pile.

Genesus is a mix of friendly, curious, and sass that will have you laughing from the start. She is everyone’s favorite redhead.

Ross was rescued late last year. His dam had been hit by a car, but he was doing well in his family band with an auntie when he somehow suffered a large puncture wound to his side. He was rescued and treated by the vet and healed up beautifully. Ross is in his second month of training with Josie Donahue and she had this to say about him: “He can trailer load, tie, pick up all four feet, fly spray, go through obstacles, has worn a saddle pad and been cinched up. He has been trailered twice to different places and did great. I have ponied him quite a bit as well. He is a very confident horse and I could see him excel on the trails or in obstacle work. I have exposed him to tarps, shaving bags, and flags. He has a very nice build for his age and is a looker already!”

All of these babies are or will be looking for their forever homes! Please see https://wildhorseconnection.org/adoptions for more information. While the girls are not yet listed on the site due to their young age, if you are interested in one of them, just indicate that on your inquiry!
